The Employer:

My client is part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary engineering installation and service Group. Employing over 2500 staff the Group continues to grow through organic and acquisitive means as part of their strategy to provide integrated solutions to their valued client base.

Job Purpose:

To drive profitable growth of the mechanical services business, providing strong leadership and direction to the team, building capabilities, maximizing synergies  and ensuring clients receive industry leading levels of service and quality, from an engaged, motivated and passionate team.

Key Accountabilities:

As the Managing Director you will:

  • Develop and execute the company’s business strategies to attain the goals of the board and shareholders
  • Provide strategic advice to the leadership team  so that they will have an accurate view of the market and the company’s future
  • Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate achievement by planning cost-effective, high-quality operations and market development activities
  • Integrate and leverage synergies across the Services portfolio.
  • Lead and drive the necessary change management activities with speed and vigour whilst minimising business risks and creating an exciting employee vision for the future
  • Create a compelling and integrated go to market strategy and pitch for the Services business to support profitable growth and maximum customer retention.
  • Develop and maintain a culture focused on safety, quality, and exceptional levels of service
  • Lead on daily business operations, ensuring strong foundations are in place to enable high levels of service for our clients, along with impressive scalability.
  • Contribute to commercial activities, leading, motivating and challenging the internal sales team involved in business development.
  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated all the way from the top down in the company and that they are always followed
  • Communicate and maintain trust relationships with shareholders, clients, suppliers and authorities
  • Oversee the company’s financial performance, including income, direct costs, overheads, cashflow and capital expenditure
  • Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of managers providing guidance, challenge, coaching and motivation to drive maximum performance
  • Manage and mitigate company risk, representing the company both internally and externally, ensuring we are controlling risks appropriately
  • Collaborate with other group entities to elevate the performance of the division

 

The Managing Director is directly responsible for the entire business performance including, financial, operational, people and risk related activities. Key areas of focus include:

 

  • Developing a cohesive strategy to support double digit growth annually
  • Leading the business and leveraging the synergies across the portfolio
  • Profitable Company growth (income, gross profit, EBITDA)
  • Sales Performance (Secured Orders, Recurring and remedials revenue growth)
  • Operational performance (service delivery, client satisfaction, productivity, client retention/growth)
  • People (attraction, retention, performance, succession and development)
  • Risk (H & S, cash control, commercial, people)

About You:

Person Profile (Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Experience):

  • You are a self-starter with a low ego, professional working attitude and capability to show humility.
  • You take ownership seriously, taking responsibility for the service standards and financial performance of our business.
  • You are a strong people leader, with demonstrable experience of leading teams and capable of rolling your sleeves up to lead by example.
  • You have strong communication and coaching skills, able to develop your team and create progression opportunities
  • You have experience in growing businesses, building and managing strong sales and operational teams
  • You have experience in leading and driving change with empathy to our employees and our customers
  • You have experience in integrating businesses, standardising and improving processes and systems.
  • You can use data to identify where service and financial standards are failing and where to prioritise.
  • You have a strong grasp of financial reporting, able to read and interpret financial reports.
  • You have strong commercial experience with an ability to develop new business, review contracts and manage key client accounts.
  • Strong experience of leading field-based engineers, ideally with national coverage.
  • Strong experience in overseeing engineering capacity and job planning, ensuring we achieve maximum engineering utilisation and productivity, whilst achieving agreed service levels.
  • Experience of supporting clients with their objectives and responding to escalations. You are a natural communicator, comfortable with picking up the phone to both clients and suppliers.
  • You are a highly motivated individual naturally, with a positive outlook.
  • You are extremely focused on providing excellent service.
  • You are a natural collaborator, working effectively with colleagues
  • You have a courteous and attentive demeanour with clients.
  • You are very proficient in the use of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
